Book 1 of a great series!

My Own Voice (Still Life with Memories Book 1) by Author Uvi Poznansky

After having read and reviewed several fictional novels by Author Uvi Poznansky, I continue to be a huge fan of her writing style. She has the mesmerizing and enchanting effect of drawing her readers into the heart and soul of her characters.

In this novel, Poznansky is mainly expressing the voice of Anita and the role she plays in the story Apart from Love: (Still Life with Memories, Volume 1 and 2) "My Own Voice" is the first installment in a three part series which creatively portrays the voices of the three main characters, Lenny, Ben his son, and Anita...Lenny's young wife who is approximately the same age as Ben. In doing so, the reader is given the opportunity to have a more in depth or private view of each of their lives from their own personal perspectives.

In the original story, Ben who is now 27 years old, "grudgingly returns home many years after the divorce of his parents, Lenny and Natasha. He finds that there is a mutual attraction between his father's young wife Anita and himself."

In Book 1, we now get to focus on Anita's colorful character with the stories of Lenny and Ben in separate editions. Anita is only a mere seventeen years of age when she becomes involved with Lenny, a much older man who is married to Natasha at the time. Anita bears a striking resemblance to Natasha although she is very rough around the edges. Lenny appears to love her but spends a great deal of his efforts trying to mold her into the image of his ex-wife who suffers from the devastating effects of Alzheimer's. The lives of Anita, Lenny, and Ben create a very intriguing portrayal of a bizarre love triangle.

Superb literary writing

17 year old Anita meets an older man, Lenny. In her simple way she decribes to the reader her love for the married man and slowly we learn about her past and the odd dynamic between the couple. The situation gets more complicated by the illness of Lenny's ex-wife and the arrival of his son Ben. The characters are drawn perfectly.
There is also a great supportive cast in form of aunt Hadassa and her sisters .
Poznansky's writing style is sharp and poignant as she uncovers the deeper layers of her characters with a superb literary quality. Casually analytical and close to the bone of truth, this is an excellent and accomplished portrayal of a fascinating and captivating family situation.

Powerful, Compelling and Unique

Uvi Poznansky's, "My Own Voice," is a creative, gripping and deeply moving tale of a young girl coming of age in unfathomable emotional circumstances.

In "Anita," Poznansky's has created character who lingers long after the final paragraph. She makes her live through masterful use of dialect, exquisite interior monologue and attention to detail.

This is the second novel I've read by this extremely talented author.

John Barrell's influential 1980 study shows why the poor began to be of such interest to painters, and examines the ways in which they could be represented so as to be an acceptable part of the décor of the salons of the rich. His discussion focuses on the work of three painters: Thomas Gainsborough, George Morland and John Constable. Throughout the book, Barrell draws illuminating comparisons with the literature of rural life and with the work of other painters. His terse and vigourous account has provided a landmark for social historians and literary critics, as well as historians of art.

About the Author

Ignacio Tinoco was an undergraduate at the University of New Mexico, a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin, and a postdoctoral fellow at Yale. He then went to the University of California, Berkeley, where he has remained. His research interest has been on the structures of nucleic acids, particularly RNA. He was chairman of the Department of Energy committee that recommended in 1987 a major initiative to sequence the human genome. His present research is on unfolding single RNA molecules by force.

 

Kenneth Sauer grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and received his A.B. in chemistry from Oberlin College. Following his Ph.D. studies in gas-phase physical chemistry at Harvard, he spent three years teaching at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. A postdoctoral opportunity to learn from Melvin Calvin about photosynthesis in plants led him to the University of California, Berkeley, where he has been since 1960. Teaching general chemistry and biophysical chemistry in the Chemistry Department has complemented research in the Physical Biosciences Division of the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab involving spectroscopic studies of photosynthetic light reactions and their role in water oxidation. His other activities include reading, renaissance and baroque choral music, canoeing, and exploring the Sierra Nevada with his family and friends.
 

James C. Wang was on the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley, from 1966 to 1977. He then joined the faculty of Harvard University, where he is presently Mallinckrodt Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His research focuses on DNA and enzymes that act on DNA, especially a class of enzymes known as DNA topoisomerases. He has taught courses in biophysical chemistry and molecular biology and has published over 200 research articles. He is a member of Academia Sinica, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.

 

Joseph Puglisi was born and raised in New Jersey. He received his B.A. in chemistry from The Johns Hopkins University in 1984 and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1989. He has studied and taught in Strasbourg, Boston, and Santa Cruz, and is currently professor of structural biology at Stanford University. His research interests are in the structure and mechanism of the ribosome and the use of NMR spectroscopy to study RNA structure. He has been a Dreyfus Scholar, Sloan Scholar, and Packard Fellow.
 

Gerard Harbison was born in the United Kingdom and raised there and in Ireland. He received his B.A. in biochemistry from Trinity College, Dublin, and his Ph.D. in biophysics from Harvard University. After a brief postdoctoral sojourn at the Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany, he joined the faculty of Stony Brook University, and then moved to the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He is a Dreyfus Scholar, Lilly Foundation Teacher-Scholar and Presidential Young Investigator. His research interests are in nuclear magnetic resonance and electronic structure theory.

 

David Rovny ak, a native of Charlottesville, Virginia, earned his B.S. in Chemistry at the University of Richmond and Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  After performing post-doctoral study at the Harvard Medical School under an NIH-NRSA fellowship, he joined Bucknell University where he has been recognized with the Bucknell Presidential Teaching Award for Excellence.  His research focuses on new methods for NMR spectroscopy and physico-chemical behavior of bile acids.

Boring and filled with errors

Its a decent book. It's not an easy read but I guess it really isn't supposed to be. My biggest problem is that there are a number of errors in the supplementary equations and problems at the end of each chapter. However, if you have access to the solutions manual they usually correct and account for these errors. Moreover, from what I have seen, the chapter bodies are generally error free. I would speculate that the supplementary problems/equations were not edited or proofread as rigorously as the chapter content.

Disclaimer: I have only studied chapters 2,3,4 and 6 thus far.

We use this book as our textbook since it is fairly new. However, there are lots of error and typos in the book which makes it confusing. PLEASE make sure there are less errors before publishing next time.

Many typos and multiple questions with incorrect answers made this textbook confusing and frustrating (as if p-chem isn't fun enough already). I can not recommend this textbook.

One of Gaboriau's classics. As part of a series, you should probably start with another of his books.

However, Gab's books don't really suffer as standalones either.

Paris in the mid-1800s as a setting for all kinds of intrigue, greed, fallen nobility, risen street kids, romantic entanglements.

All this with the original classic detective work that forms the base of, and is some of the best of, who-dunnit writing in history.

A short essay on trench raiding in WW1

When I purchased this I did not realise how short it was.This was my first Kindle purchase.It really is a quite short essay based on secondary sources & unfortunately lacking in depth & details.It would have been good to have first person accounts of trench raids & the German response.There are no illustrations of trench raiding weapons or for that matter anything else.The author concludes that trench raids were ultimately not worthwhile but fails to provide cogent evidence to substantiate his view.Certainly both sides did trench raids right to the end of the war & there was a perceived need to dominate the battlefield.It is an easy read which took me only a couple of minutes but ultimately I found this work unsatisfying.

A pretty good read

A pretty good read. Factual, personal, bloody, but, not overly gory. I doubt I would have been able to do these missions and I survived quite a bit of combat in Vietnam. These were some very tough hombres and braver than badgers.
