His explanation is first class and he explains how various custom settings are related to each other. Doug does a fine job explaining what can be very intimidating areas of this camera. It worth very much the investment - I've not finished yet but so far it's a very nice reading, along with useful links. I'm that kind of user that reads all the equipment manuals before using it. As I'm new in DSLR cameras I've found the original manual a little bit complicated - My issues were related to 'how to?' or 'why this instead of that?' or even 'what is it for?'... After reading the Nikon D5500 Experience and trying to practice all the functions in paralel, I'd like to say now I'm relatively comfortable and I have a good notion of all functions; at least in theory - now I have a lot of practice to improve my skills! I recomend.

Great Resource for the Nikon D5500

This book has been an excellent resource. It has brought the learning curve down to where I am having very a positive experience with my Nikon D5500. The book is written much better and give much more information about the camera than the manual. Excellent book for a beginner or one like me that has been out of the hobby since the late 70s. Money well spend!!! If you want or need more in depth information on your Nikon D5500, this book will do it for you.

Still reading this book but I can say it's outstanding so far and will always be a good reference source later on. If you own a D5500 I highly recommend this it well worth the money. This book explains all the D5500 and it's functions in great details, more thorough than the manual. And if you're new to digital photography he explains the difference between the old 35mm format and the new digital era of photography.

gorgeous, inspiring

This beautiful, fat book contains informative and inspiring biographical sketches of women scholars. The careers of these amazing women raise subtle and important questions about the obstacles historically encountered by women seeking to engage the life of the mind. There have been many books written about the careers of male scholars and editors, of which *The Professor and the Madman* is only the most famous. No other book tells the stories of such women. These stories are not scandalous, but they are true, and they are indeed and for the most part heartening.

Beautiful designs, difficult charts

I'll start by saying that I LOVE Beth Russell's interpretations of Arts and Crafts designs in this book as well as her other two. She's chosen wonderful motifs and arranged them into lovely, unique needlepoint projects. I speak from experience, as I'm now working on my third project from her books, the orange border design shown on the cover of her latest volume, worked on large canvas to make a rug. I highly recommend all three books for lovers of needlepoint, other charted needlework, arts and crafts design, or William Morris.
This book is beautifully laid out and lovely to page through and read, but its loveliness is one of its downfalls: The charts are printed in full color, without utilizing symbols to indicate yarn colors. Although this choice makes the charts pleasant to look at, the subtle differences between yarn colors are sometimes very hard to see in the charts, making working from them difficult. I spent too much time squinting at the latest chart, making little pencil dots on it to differentiate between LIGHT grey green and MEDIUM-LIGHT grey green!
I'll be proud of the resulting product, and will forgive Russell's editorial choice. Do consider buying this book, but be prepared for some challenges in using it.

Lovely Book with Lovely Patterns

However, when I was considering the purchase of the book, I was unable to find a complete listing of the designs included in the book (always helpful when purchasing something like this). One of the seminal textbooks in Periodontology. I spent a bit of time contemplating digital vs hardcover and was mainly worried about how pictures and things would look (as the sample gives little detail). In the end the price difference including shipping tipped the balance in favour of digital and I'm so pleased I did. The pictures are fantastic - its exactly the same as the printed version. Its very easy to navigate the book. It covers all of the important topics. And its great to have it on all my devices for quick referencing. You can't copy and paste details but I guess you can't do that with the printed copy either.

Not for undergraduates

As in its fifth edition, the work appears in two volumes called basic concepts and clinical concepts. A change among the editors has occurred, Lindhe and Lang are responsibe for the first volume while Lang and Lindhe for the second. The work is heavy, both in its content as physically. Many of my colleagues have already striked the previous 5th edition of Lindhe’s textbook from the recommended reading list for undergraduates. Two volumes with more than 1400 pages altogether appears inappropriate for a topic which may or may not be regarded a core discipline in dentistry. The same applies to the main American textbook on Periodontology, Carranza’s. Sometimes less is more. For postgraduate training, both works are indispensable, of course. Not for undergraduates.

What the cover of Volume 1, Basic Concepts, displays is anyway remarkable. Bad dentistry on the cover of a 21st century textbook edited by the two leading dental researchers?
